IMPORTANT UPDATE: 21/06/2016
Following an update from the DfE we would like to confirm the guidance around use of P-Scales in Science at KS1
- For a pupil with a Science outcome of HNM, a P Scale entry must also be recorded if the pupil is SEN.
A new KS1 template will be released to update the validation warning message and will be available to download from here as soon as it is available. However In the meantime you can continue to use the existing template but IGNORE the ‘P-Scales are optional’ warning and continue to record P-Scales as appropriate.
Important Update: 10/06/2016 – For schools completing KS1 Test Outcomes, GOV.UK have provided guidance for scaled scores at Key Stage 1.
This document states “A scaled score of 100 or more represents the expected standard in each test. A pupil awarded a score of 99 or less has not met the expected standard in the test”.
Those pupils who do not achieve the minimum scaled score should be awarded an N.
When entering the test outcomes in SIMS, the codes applicable to the above scaled scores are as follows:
AS – Achieved Standard – equivalent to a scaled score of 100 or more
NS – Not Achieved Standard – equivalent to a scaled score of 99 or less
B – Working Below the Level of the Test – equivalent to a scaled score of N.
Full details of the guidance can be found by clicking on link:
Update: 10/05/2016 – Please note the KS1 and KS2 Step by Step guidance have been revised.
The new national curriculum will be tested for the first time in May 2016. This entails significant changes to the framework for reporting Teacher Assessments. The judgment criteria will no longer use levels for teacher assessments and tests outcomes are now recorded using raw scores and reported using scaled scores. A Target for progress has been replaced by a new Value Added measure.
Scomis have provided step by step documentation on how to import EYFS, Year 1 and Year 2 Phonics, KS1 and KS2 Wizards into SIMS to provide marksheets to enter outcomes to fulfil the statutory requirements. These marksheets also populate individual pupil reports that can inform parents where their child is working within the new national curriculum.
Also available are FAQs and a Check List to enable you to keep track of where you are if you are interrupted within your busy environment.

The Threshold Score is currently undergoing validation and will be published by the DfE on Monday 27th June. It will be available from http://www.gov.uk.
Instructions on how to enter the threshold mark is included for Year 1 Phonics only. Please see below:
Currently the Year 2 Phonics Wizard 2016 has been predefined with a threshold score of 32. Therefore, if the threshold remains at 32 no further action is required.
When the threshold values have been validated and confirmed by the DfE on Monday 27th June 2016, if the phonics threshold mark is changed then the new mark will then need to be entered. Scomis will update the bulletin giving details on how this can be done.
