Scomis negotiate the bulk purchase of anti-virus protection software licences, enabling favourable discounts to be passed on to schools. This provides schools with a leading product suite, affording an effective level of protection against viruses and other threats.
These McAfee antivirus licences must be renewed every financial year. This also applies to licences purchased with a new PC, as the licence will expire at the end of the financial year in which it was purchased. Sufficient licences are required for each device within the school on which the software is installed; curriculum, administration, desktops, laptops and servers. Scomis recommend that you keep an inventory of all equipment to ensure that you hold the correct number of licences that are required as part of your Audit requirement.
The licences allow use of the entire ‘McAfee Total Protection for Endpoint’ product suite, however, support by Scomis is only provided for the following:
- McAfee VirusScan Enterprise v8.8 patch 6
- Windows 10
- Windows 8, 8.1
- Windows 7
- Windows Vista
- Windows XP – no longer officially supported as per Microsoft retiring XP maintenance
- Windows Sever 2012
- Windows Server 2008
- Windows Server 2003 – no longer officially supported as per Microsoft retiring 2003 maintenance
Please note that schools are required to purchase Scomis’ “Whole School ICT Support Service” or “Administration ICT Support Service” to enable support for this software.
Many other utilities are available in the product suite, a few being detailed below. Please note that these utilities are not supported by Scomis and are aimed at Network Managers for deployment/use on a network rather than standalone:
- Host Intrusion Prevention v8.0 (Desktop/Server)
- ePolicy Orchestrator v5.3 – single centralized management console (Server)
- McAfee Agent v5.0
- McAfee Security for Microsoft Exchange 2013/2016 v8.5.1 (Server)
- Installation Designer v8.8

These licences cover the existing use of the software currently installed on school admin and curriculum workstations, laptops and servers. New devices will need extra licences purchasing.

On completing the subscription form, your school will be emailed an order acknowledgement. It will also include details of your entitlement to software licences and should be printed and kept somewhere safe for your own records and for audit purposes. A separate invoice will follow.
